After spending the better part of the day flying and walking the historic district of this beautiful coastal city we took a chance that we could find a room at the Florida House Inn. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Florida House Inn is Florida's oldest surviving hotel.
We were met by Joe and Diane Warwick, the inn's owners, who made us feel immediately "at home". Joe took us to see the last two rooms available. We decided on room "2" with a view of the courtyard to the rear of the inn.
Off the front of the inn is an expansive verandah (below), adorned with rocking chairs, providing for a leisurely afternoon or a relaxing spot for morning coffee... which I might add, the inn has great coffee.
The Florida House Inn boasts "friendly and attentive service", but they go much farther. Everyone at the inn greeted us with a friendly smile and stopped at nothing less than impeccable service.
Our room (top right) was clean and comfortable, and tastefully furnished with antiques and period pieces. Several of the rooms also have working fireplaces, claw leg tubs, and some, large Jacuzzi tubs.
As evening set in, we opted to spend our time on the rear balcony and enjoy a little wine and some appetizers from the Frisky Mermaid.... read more >>>
Several mopeds are available for your use, a perk of staying at the Florida House Inn. That's right, included with your room is 4 hours use of a moped to cruise around the 50+ block historic district... and if you ask for the "Flying Florida Special" with two night stay in a deluxe room, they'll double the time. The Florida House Inn is a must if you're traveling to Amelia Island. We're looking forward to a return trip, only next time we plan to stay longer to enjoy this fantastic island destination. And one more plus, not only is the Florida House Inn "pilot friendly" providing ground transportation to and from the airport, but they're "pet friendly" too. Pets are welcome with prior arrangements. We give this charming Florida inn an easy five...
